K-Theory: Remixed and Revitalized (MalLabel Records)

by Sarah Silvas
Fresh from our friends at MalLabel Records, three consummate producers have taken on the challenge of remixing and defining a K-Theory track through their own unique perceptions of dubstep. The Widdler, Omega and Lippe dive deeply into the belly the beast and have unsurprisingly come out on top with this fabulous EP teeming with pulverizing bangers meant to satisfy even the shyest of bass admirers.
The Widdler begins his remix of “Inception” with incredible sampling over an increasingly heavy drum and bass beat. A swirling clamor breaks into the unabashed melody like a stomping mythological mammoth. Fervor builds while buzzing warning signals swell with each accompanying laser strike. Thrusting the listener head-first into the center of an whirling auditory battlefield, this track successfully encapsulates the sounds of a darker, more primitive world. Captivating from the very first drop, The Widdler refuses to reliquish control of the listener, assaulting your ears with furious blizzard of completely unparalleled beats.
Two of the tracks on this exclusive release remix the same K-Theory original, “Roll-out.” On the very forefront of the dubstep scene, Omega stands strong as beacon of immaculate production. His interpretation begins with dexterous, tiptoeing introduction that bursts into an instantaneously awakening percussion line. Using shrill synths that send shivers up your spine, Omega never lets go of the deep and surreptitious groove. Nearly a minute into this track Omega drops his signature effervescent, unrivaled bass. Filthy enough to inspire heavy perspiration, this brilliant “Roll-Out” remix truly redefines the term “banger.” Playful strikes intertwine with haunting vigor to personify the dark and sinister sounds as an evil stranger lurking quietly in the shadows. Omega did not merely remix this track, he made it his own with his typical electrifying vehemence.
Omega is not the only one who masterfully re-defined K-Theory’s “Roll-Out” with an incredible remix of his own. Lippe likewise dissected “Rollout”, crafting a dance-worthy track brimming over with fierce, utterly face-melting bass. An insanely wonky atmosphere is heightened by eerie samples that trigger intense bodily shudders all while Lippe channels excruciating, nail-biting anticipation through a series of perfectly orchestrated melodic progressions. Throwing your ears ears into an auditory whirlwind of glitchy dubstep and bouncy beats, your body innately adjusts to the smashing sensation driven by this unholy banger. In it’s entirety, this fresh anthem exudes immaculate production with the only possible hang-up being the unquenchable ache for more upon it’s unfortunate conclusion.
This EP boasts of three top-notch producers whom are laying the groundwork for the future of dubstep. Each track builds upon the solid foundation laid by K-Theory, yet all three artists took that groundwork and built upon it a monument to their own dramatically unique styles.
